Pirates split a pair at Cerritos

NORWALK -- The Orange Coast College men's water polo team went 1-1 at the Cerritos College Invitational this past weekend, falling to host Cerritos, 11-10 before topping Chaffey, 21-6.

In the loss to the Falcons, Coast (11-2), jumped out to a 7-4 lead and led 10-8 early in the fourth quarter before Cerritos came back with three goals down the stretch.

Parker Evans and Ariel Levi each had three goals for the Pirates, while Skyler Chanove and Kevin Dayan each tossed in two goals.

Goalie Alexander Furlong picked up 13 big saves for the Pirates, who saw their seven-match win streak come to an end.

However, a new win streak began the very next match as the Pirates cruised to victory over the Panthers.

Evans led the way with four goals for Coast, while Ian Tesdell and Gavin Scott each scored three. Levi, Chanove, Kevin Dayan and Adonis Cornejo each added two goals, while the goalie tandem of Furlong and Gavin Gray combined for 14 saves.

The Pirates will return to tournament action this weekend at the Riverside City College Tournament, beginning on Friday.
