Pirates blow away Gauchos in conference opener

COSTA MESA -- Kevin Dayan had six goals and two assists to lead the Orange Coast College men's water polo team to a convincing 21-8 Orange Empire Conference win on Wednesday against visiting Saddleback College.
Ariel Levi hadded five goals and three steals for the Pirates (4-1, 1-0), while Parker Evans tallied three goals and four assists.
Steven Magdaleno and Skyler Chanove each tacked on a pair of goals, while single tallies were turned in by Nathan Britton, Jacob Ousten and Eli Sperling.
Coast held a 5-3 lead after one quarter before ripping off seven straight goals in the second quarter to pull away, 12-3. Saddleback got to within 12-5 but never threatened the rest of the way, thanks in large part to Pirate goalkeeper Alexander Fulong, who came up with 12 big saves through three quarters.
The Pirates will host Santa Ana on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
