Strong second half propels Pirates to 11-8 win over Fullerton

FULLERTON -- The Orange Coast College men's water polo overcame a first-half deficit and topped Fullerton, 11-8, on Wednesday in an Orange Empire Conference matchup played at Fullerton College.

Trailing 7-5 at the half and 8-5 early in the third quarter, OCC (5-2, 1-1 in OEC) pushed ahead of the Hornets with five straight goals, then had its defense shut FC out in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.

Eduardo Wainberg and Gerardo Garcia each had three goals for the Pirates, while Gabriele Simonti added two goals and Nicholas Ly, Angel Rosado and Jacob Petersen each notched one goal.

Goalie Gavin Gray continued his strong play for the Pirates with 10 big saves and allowed just one second-half goal to help enable the Pirates to rally down the stretch.

Coast will return to action this weekend at the Cerritos College Tournament before returning to OEC play on Wednesday at Santa Ana College, beginning at 4 p.m.
