Pirates go 3-1 at Mt. SAC tournament

WALNUT -- The Orange Coast College men's water polo had a successful weekend at the Mt. San Antonio College Tournament, going 3-1 against some top competition.

Coast (6-4) began things on Friday with a 16-11 win over Cuesta College. Trailing 4-3 early in the second quarter, the Pirates turned on the jets and scored eight of the next nine goals into the third quarter to take an 11-5 lead and OCC cruised from there.

Caden Carpenter led Coast with five goals and two assists, while Chad Harris added three goals. Aiden Morris, Jackson Bryson and Mason Parker each tossed in two goals, while OCC goalie Roman Christenot notched eight saves in the Coast win.

OCC's lone loss of the tournament came Friday afternoon when the Pirates fell to West Valley College, 20-14. Ryan O'Donovan led the way with five goal, while Carpenter and Carmelo Bangs each added two goals. 

Coast regrouped and rolled to a 17-7 win over Palomar College on Saturday morning. Bryson, O'Donovan and Bangs led a balanced Pirate attack with three goals each, while Christenot held the Comets to six goals with nine saves over the first three quarters.

In the final match of the weekend, Coast took care of business against Sierra College and won, 14-8. Carpenter paced OCC's offense with four goals, while O'Donovan and Nathan Jones each added two goals.

The Pirates will return to the OCC Aquatics Pavilion on Wednesday to host Riverside City College in a crucial Orange Empire Conference matchup, beginning at 3 p.m.
