
Pirates earn a split at Mt. SAC tournament
WALNUT -- After a rough Friday of competition, the Orange Coast College men's water polo team bounced back strong with a pair of solid wins on Saturday at the Mt. San Antonio College Tournament this past weekend.
The Pirates (7-4) opened things on Friday with a pair of losses to L.A. Valley (16-10) and West Valley (19-13) before earning two wins over El Camino (16-12) and Palomar (19-4) to finish the tourney 2-2.
Against the Warriors, Coast trailed 7-6 late in the second quarter before outscoring ECC 4-0 to take a 10-7 advantage midway through the third quarter. El Camino pulled to within a goal at 12-11 early in the fourth before a 3-0 run put the Pirates ahead for good.
Cade Zeilinger led the Pirates with six goals, while Otis McAdams and Jason Honey each tossed in three. In goal, Roman Christenot came through with five saves to earn the win.
Against the Comets, it was all OCC as the Pirates ripped off the first eight goals of the contest and never looked back. McAdams led the way for Coast with four goals, while Jackson Steele put away three goals and Honey, Sam Brooks and Brenden Bellavia each tossed in two.
OCC will return to the Aquatics Pavilion on Wednesday to take on Whittier College, beginning at 6 p.m.
