
Pirates advance to OEC final with 11-5 win over Cypress
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College men's water polo team took care of business on Friday with an 11-5 win over Cypress in the semifinals of the Orange Empire Conference Finals, hosted by Golden West College, on Friday.
With the win, the Pirates will advance to Saturday's championship match, where they will take on Golden West, beginning at 3:10 p.m.
Cade Zeilinger led the Coast offense with five goals, while Otis McAdams tossed in three and added an assist. Sawyer McCormick had four points in the win (one goal, three assists), while Sam Brooks added a goal and two assists.
In goal, Roman Christenot was solid with 12 saves and seven steals.
After a close opening quarter, the Pirates found another gear in the second quarter, outscoring the Chargers 5-1 to grab an 8-3 halftime advantage. A pair of early goals by McAdams were followed up by a pair of late goals from Zeilinger over that eight-minute span.
Coast put things out of reach midway through the third quarter with back-to-back goals from Carmelo Bangs and Zeilinger.
