
Pirates fall to Whittier, 13-10
COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's water polo team battled NCAA Division III's Whittier College four four strong quarters on Wednesday night, but the Pirates came up just short against the Poets in a 13-10 nonconference loss at the OCC Aquatics Pavilion.
The Pirates (7-5) were tied with the Poets (5-1) at the half, 7-7 and led 8-7 early in the third quarter before Whittier outscored OCC 6-2 the rest of the way to pull out the win.
Otis McAdams, Carmelo Bangs and Sawyer McCormick each had two goals for OCC, while Brenden Bellavia had a goal and three assists. Beau Bradley, Cade Zeilinger and Sam Brooks also scored goals for the Pirates, while goalkeepers Roman Christenot and Anderson Crane combined for five saves.
The Pirates will head up to Cuesta College for a weekend tournament, which begins on Friday against Cabrillo College at 10:20 a.m. OCC's next home match will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 16 against Fullerton College, beginning at 4:15 p.m.
