Solid team performance for Pirate men as they take third at Vanguard Invitational

ORANGE -- With three top-20 performances, the Orange Coast College men's cross country team finished third overall at the 26th-Annual Vanguard Invitational on Saturday at Irvine Park.

Coast competed against some solid NAIA, four-year schools and placed third with a team score of 76 points, trailing only Westmont (42) and Lewis-Clark (52). Host Vanguard University finished fourth with 83 points, followed by Concordia (99), California Maritime Academy (197), Arizona Christian (213), Soka (239) and Providence Christian (240).

OCC sophomore Danny Dominguez blazed through the 8K course and placed third overall with a time of 25 minutes, 54.38 seconds. It was a battle to the end as Dominguez was edged out by Westmont's Michael Oldach (25:43.08) and Vanguard's Jeronimo Brito (25:51.26).

Sophomore Galyn Nash crossed the finish line in eighth place with a solid time of 26:11.71, while Peter Costanzo took 19th with a time of 26:58.45 to help lead the way for the Pirates.

Other strong times for Coast included Hector Leon (27:31.17), Oscar Salas (27:53.42), Adolfo Cruz (28:16.22), Abraham Spitzer-Tilchin (28:19.06), Dominic Gonzales (28:42.45), Shawn Contreras (28:49.22), Ken Nakama (30:32.18), Joseph Martinez (30:39.59) and Colin Takushi (32:50.23).

Coast will return to action on Friday at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m.
