Pirates take seventh overall at SoCal Meet

ORANGE -- It was a solid team effort for the Orange Coast College men's cross country as the Pirates claimed seventh place overall at the 2016 Southern California Regional Meet, held at Irvine Park.

Coast finished with 201 points, topped only by San Bernardino Valley (62), Glendale (85), Mt. San Antonio (101), Riverside (115), Cuyamaca (115) and Santa Ana (169).

Four OCC athletes -- Danny Dominguez, Peter Costanzo, Galyn Nash and Oscar Salas -- finished in the top-50 and helped Coast qualify for the California Community College Athletic Association Men's Cross Country State Meet, set for Nov. 19 at Fresno's Woodward Park.

Dominguez hung tough with some of the top runners in the region and finished the 4-mile course in 11th place with a time of 20 minutes, 54 seconds. Costanzo placed 21st with a time of 21:08, while Nash (21:24) finished 32nd and Salas (21:38.4) took 46th out of a field of nearly 200 competitors.

Other top OCC times were turned in by Adolfo Cruz (22:29), Shawn Contreras (22:41.6) and Hector Leon (22:52.6).
