Dominguez leads Pirates to third place at OEC Meet

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Danny Dominguez earned a solid second-place performance to lead the Orange Coast College men's cross country team to a third-place team finish at the 2016 Orange Empire Conference Meet, held at Central Park.

It was a battle to the finish line for Dominguez and Riverside City College's Joshua Silva as the two fought neck and neck down the stretch. Silva, who finished second in the OEC meet a year ago, would not be denied this year as he edged out Dominguez on the four-mile course with a winning time of 20 minutes, 52.7 seconds. Dominguez came in second with a time of 20:54.5, while Santa Ana's Paulino Sanchez finished third with a time of 21:06.1.

Dominguez's teammate, Peter Costanzo made the most of his first OEC Finals and placed fourth overall with a time of 21:13.2 as the Pirates notched a team score of 65, trailing only Riverside (37) and Santa Ana (47) in the final standings.

Other top performances for the Pirates came from Adolfo Cruz (21:57.7), Oscar Salas (22:02.4), Shawn Contreras (22:36), Hector Leon (22:55.6), Abraham Spitzer-Tilchin (23:12), Joseph Martinez (23:21.5), Galyn Nash (23:34.1), Ken Nakama (23:53.7), Samuel Russakov (24:47.5) and Colin Takushi (24:52.8).

Next up for the Pirates is the Southern California Regional Finals on Friday at Irvine Park, beginning at 10 a.m.
