Coast men take 10th at SoCal Preview Meet

CERRITOS -- It was a solid effort for the Orange Coast College men's cross country team as the Pirates finished 10th overall at the 2018 Southern California Preview Meet on Friday at Don Knabe Community Regional Park.

Led by a ninth-place finish by OCC freshman Esteban Prado, the Pirates finished with a team score of 304 points. San Diego Mesa and El Camino took the top two spots with an identical score of 90 points, followed by Glendale (104), Riverside (143) and American River (194) in the 28-team meet.

Prado took on 312 of the top runners in the region and cracked the top 10 on the four-mile course with a time of 20 minutes, 23.6 seconds, just 22 seconds behind race winner Carson Bix of El Camino College (20:01.5). 

All five point-scorers for the Pirates all finished in the top third of field, including Jordan Knoblock (21:22.9), Jacob Skytte (21:40), Oscar Gatica (21:50.6) and Justin Dominguez (22:13). Other top OCC times were turned in by Jesus Zuniga (22:24), Jesus Orbe (22:28.6), Adam Angel (22:29.7), Zachary Dignan (22:43.4), Myles Aguilar (22:51.9), Tanner Grohmann (22:55.2), Mateo Nicanor (23:45.5), Anthony Osorio (23:46.1), Sebastian Chaves (23:55.1), Joseph Pena (24:08.8), Louis Wai-Choon (24:19.1), Jonathan Marin (26:43.8), Jonathan Aguirre (26:59.1) and Ernesto Zepeda (28:01.7).

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at 9 a.m. at the Golden West Invitational, located at Central Park in Huntington Beach.
