Pirates finish seventh overall at GWC Invitational

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College men's cross country team stayed close together and their solid team approach helped the Pirates to a seventh-place team result at the 2018 Golden West College Invitational on Friday at Central Park.

With seven OCC runners within 17 points of each other, the Pirates finished seventh overall with a team score of 189. El Camino College earned five top-10 finishes to win the men's race with 21 points.

The first seven Coast runners to cross the finish line all finished within 40 seconds of each other and the top Pirate was freshman Adam Angel, who finished the four-mile course with a time of 22:31.8.

Close behind Angel was a pack of Pirates, including Oscar Gatica (22:40.9), Myles Aguilar (22:42.6), Jacob Skytte (22:55.2), Jordan Knoblock (23:01.4), Jesus Zuniga (23:06.9), Justin Dominguez (23:13.2), Tanner Grohmann (23:13.3), Zachary Dignan (23:42.4), Anthony Osorio (24:03.6), Jesus Orbe (24:20.1), Sebastian Chavez (24:31.2), Louis Wai-Choon (24:54.8), Joseph Pena (25:29.2), Jonathan Aguirre (26:52.9), Jonathan Marin (27:39.7) and Ernesto Zepeda (31:50.1).

Coast will return to action on Friday, Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. at the Brubaker Invitational, located at Irvine Park in Orange.
