Pirates keep digging deep in the sand!
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College women's sand volleyball team continued its impressive play with two more wins over Santa Ana (4-1) and Cypress (5-0) on Friday at the Newland Avenue Courts.
In the win over the Dons, Coast (5-0) picked up straight-set wins by Danielle Boyette/Sierra Brown (21-2, 21-8), Shayna Johnson/Alexa Herrera (25-22, 21-15), Kasse-Ann Dela Cruz/Alyssa Assayag (21-17, 21-19) and Lehua Alama-Jordan/Danyelle Brown (21-12, 21-14).
Against the Chargers, the team of Boyette/S. Brown fell behind early, but rebounded to grind out a victory over Charity Dennis/Makayla Taylor, 13-21, 21-19, 18-16.
Johnson/Herrera (21-17, 21-19), Alama-Jordan/D. Brown (21-10, 21-11) and Dela Cruz/Assayag (21-19, 21-12) again earned straight-set wins, while Megan Rawlings and Aubrea Tuell won by default.
The Pirates will return to the Newland Courts on Friday against Long Beach and Mira Costa, beginning at 12 p.m.
