Pirate women advance two teams in OEC Sand Volleyball Tournament

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College women's sand volleyball team had two of its teams advance to the semifinals of the Orange Empire Conference San Volleyball Championships with opening-round wins on Wednesday at Golden West College.

OCC's No. 1 team of Danielle Boyette and Sierra Brown advanced to the next round with a 21-7, 21-6 win over El Camino College's Brenda Silva and Britnie Welchance.

The Pirate duo of Lehua Alama-Jordan and Danyelle Brown swept past Santa Ana College's Nina Alejandro and Esther Arroyo, 21-9, 21-15. 

Both teams will advance to the semifinals, set for Irvine Valley College on Friday at 12 p.m. Winners of each semifinal matchup will compete

Unfortunately for Coast, three teams were knocked out of the tournament as Megan Rawlings and Aubrea Tuell (21-14, 21-18), Kasse-Ann Dela Cruz and Alyssa Assayag (21-4, 21-17) and Alexa Herrera and Shayna Johnson (22-20, 21-19) came up short in their opening-round matchups.
