Pirates conclude successful first year in sand volleyball

IRVINE -- The Orange Coast College sand volleyball team wrapped up a very successful inaugural season with the conclusion of the 2015 California Community College Athletic Association Sand Volleyball State Championship on Saturday at Irvine Valley College.

Two OCC teams -- Danielle Boyette and Sierra Brown and Lehua Alama-Jordan and Danyelle Brown -- advanced to the quarterfinals of their individual brackets.

In one of the quarterfinal #1s matchups, Boyette and Sierra Brown lost to Cabrillo's Kelsey Shaver and Alexa Rosendale, 21-12, 21-14 to finish their season 8-6 overall.

For Jordan and Danyelle Brown, they also fell, 21-15, 22-20 to Grossmont's Tiffany Cobian in a quarterfinal #3s matchup to wrap up their season at 10-5, tops on the OCC squad.

All in all, it was a very strong start to the sport of sand volleyball at Orange Coast College as the Pirates finished as a team with a 7-5 overall record.

Other OCC teams for the Pirates in 2015 included Kasse-Ann Dela Cruz and Alyssa Assayag, who finished 7-5 in 2015, Alexa Herrera and Shayna Johnson, who finished 7-6 and Aubrea Tuell and Megan Rawlings, who went 4-8.
