Pirates cruise past Dons, 8-1

SANTA ANA -- The Orange Coast College softball team pounded out 15 hits and used a steady performance from pitcher Montana Roelvink to shut down the Santa Ana Dons, 8-1, on Wednesday at Santa Ana College.

Roelvink (4-5) went the distance for the Pirates (4-9, 3-4 in the Orange Empire Conference), allowing one run on six hits with just one walk and two strikeouts. The freshman righty retired 11 straight during the middle innings as OCC jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

Coast jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first before former former Don, Emma Silvestri made her former team pay with an RBI-single to make it 2-0 in the top of the second inning.

Run-scoring singles by Linnea Donogugh and Anna Marin in th etop of the third made it 4-0 before a two-run single to center off the bat of Taylor Gallo busted the game wide open for the Pirates.

Marin, who finished 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI, slugged a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to cap off the scoring for OCC. Cayla Ezelle went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored, while Silvestri, Donahugh and Gretchen Horn each collected two hits.

OCC will continue its four-game road swing on Friday at Riverside College, beginning at 2 p.m. The Pirates' next home game will take place on Monday against Golden West, beginning at 3 p.m.
