Driggs' big game not enough for Pirates in loss to Santa Barbara

SANTA MARIA -- Sophomore standout Sydney Driggs earned herself a spot in the Orange Coast College women's basketball record books with a 33-point performance, but the Pirates came up short and lost to Santa Barbara City College, 75-64, on Friday at the Allan Hancock College Women's Basketball Tournament.

Driggs went 13-of-22 from the floor, including four 3-pointers, for her 33-point outburst. The last OCC player to reach the 30-point mark was Courtney Ford back in 2007-08. Her 33 points is tied for the 15th-highest point total in school history.

Isabella Hollibaugh added 10 points, while Aubriona Mathis notched six points and a team-best nine rebounds for the Pirates (0-7).

In the tournament opener against L.A. Harbor Mathis had 16 points and 20 rebounds (third-most in one game in school history), while Hollibaugh added 16 points and 10 rebounds and Driggs tossed in 14 points and nine rebounds in a 74-68 loss to the Seahawks.

Coast will return to action on Monday, Dec. 18, at the Erin Tomlinson Coast Christmas Classic against Chaffey College, beginning at 7 p.m.
