Pirates battle hard, but fall to Tigers

RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College women's basketball team opened up Orange Empire Conference play at Riverside City College and there, the Pirates fell to the host Tigers, 76-58, on Wednesday night.

After falling behind 34-18 at the half, Coast found its offensive groove in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers, 20-16 over that span. Isabella Hollibaugh, who finished the night with 15 points and 10 rebounds, led the Pirates with eight in that quarter to keep OCC within striking distance.

But the Tigers, who were led by Dejah Wright's 21 points and Kimari Hollis' 20 points, kept the Pirates at bay the rest of the way and earned the win to improve to 9-6 overall.

Reserve point guard Angelina Alvarez made the most of her 22 minutes for Coast, leading the team with a season-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists. Sydney Driggs added 14 points, five rebounds and four assists as well.

Coast will return to the Peterson Gym on Friday night against Cypress College, beginning at 7 p.m.
