Pirates return to win column with 3-0 win over Miramar

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team snapped a mild three match losing skid with a convincing 3-0 nonconference win over visiting Miramar College on Friday at the OCC Soccer Complex.

After being outscored 11-0 over their previous three matches, Coast (2-3-1) came out the aggressor against the winless Jets (4-0) and outshot its guests, 21-5. Only the dynamic play of goalkeeper Jennifer Sanchez (12 saves) kept Miramar closer than it deserved.

Delani Guyot scored the first of her two goals for the afternoon in the 24th minute, when she took a nice pass from Veronica Zambrano and swept a shot near side against Sanchez to put OCC up for good.

It stayed just a one-goal contest until the 80th minute, when Guyot scored her second of the match, this time, on a long pass from teammate Karryn Henderson, putting the Pirates up, 2-0.

Just eight minutes later, Veronica Zambrano sent a pass into the scoring area, where Lynette Romero jumped up and headed her shot into the back of the net to wrap off the Pirates' scoring for the afternoon.

The Pirates will play inside OCC's LeBard Stadium on Tuesday night as they host Norco College at 7 p.m.
