COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to rally past visiting Irvine Valley College, 2-1, on Friday afternoon at the OCC Soccer Complex.
It wasn't a pretty game early on as both teams struggled to find any decent scoring opportunities through most of the first half. Finally, in the 39th minute, a defensive turnover by the Pirates led to a goal off of the foot of Amanda Kutcher, putting the Lasers (5-10-3, 2-7-1) up 1-0 after the first half.
OCC (6-10-2, 3-6-1) made some adjustments at the break and came out with more offensive success. In the 58th minute, a long free kick from Isabella Dabalack found its way to Delani Guyot, who slipped past the IVC defense and found the corner of the net to even the match at a goal apiece.
In the 79th minute, the Pirates took the lead for good as Guyot went down the left side and sent a nice feed over to teammate Julie Orellana, who beat IVC goalkeeper Heather Miller (seven saves) for a 2-1 OCC advantage.
From there, the Pirates kept the Lasers off of the scoreboard as goalkeeper Bryana Esparza returned from an injury and notched a pair of saves in the win.
Coast will head up to Huntington Beach to take on Golden West on Tuesday before hosting Saddleback on Friday at 7 p.m. inside OCC's LeBard Stadium.
