Pirates defeat Warriors, Coyotes in tri-meet

COSTA MESA -- It was a Happy Valentine's Day for the Orange Coast College women's track and field team, thanks to a double win over El Camino and Cuyamaca on Friday in a nonconference tri-meet.

A trio of double-wins for Leanne Allen, Sabrina Howe and Ashley Tupailesa lifted the host Pirates to a 89-62 win over the Warriors and a 118-23 win over the Coyotes.

Allen took home first-place honors in the 800-meter run with a winning time of 2 minutes, 20.34 seconds and followed that up with a win in the javelin throw (83 feet, 9 inches).

Howe won both of her events in the field competition as she took first place in both the high jump (5-1/4) and the long jump (17-4 3/4).

Tupailesa led the way in both the shot put (33-1/2) and the hammer throw (128-2).

In the 1,500, Raeanna Cortez led a 1-2-3-4-5 finish with a winning time of 4:56.02, followed by Allen (5:02.35), Karen Silvas (5:04.4), Guadalupe Cantoran (5:08.89) and Kristie Son (5:10.83).

Silvas and Cantoran finished 1-2 in the 3,000, with Silvas winning with a time of 11:02.55.

In the triple jump, Nikki Puerner nailed a top jump of 34-10 1/4 to lead the Pirates to victory in that event.

Kanessa Uta's throw of 89-11 won the discus throw for the Pirates.

Coast will return to Orange Empire Conference action on Friday at Fullerton College against the Hornets and Golden West College Rustlers, beginning at 12 p.m.
