Sims, Heising finish 1-2 at OEC Heptathlon finals

COSTA MESA -- The dynamic duo of Taylor Sims and Hannah Heising ruled the Orange Coast College track and field complex last week at the 2016 Orange Empire Conference Multi-Event Championships.

Allen, with wins in four of the seven events, claimed the OEC title with 3,947 points, while Heising, who claimed three second-place marks and one third-place spot, finished second overall with 3,556 points.

Sims opened the competition by dominating the 100-meter dash with a winning time of 14.72 seconds, nearly two full seconds better than the rest of the field.

After a second-place mark in the high jump (5-feet, 1/2-inch) and a third-place mark in the shot put (23-6 1/4), Sims claimed first place in the 200 (26.81) and the long jump (16-5 3/4).

In the final event of the competition -- the 800 -- Sims edged out Heising at the wire for a time of 2:37.23, while Heising took the second spot with a time of 2:37.93.

Heising also took second place in the 100 (16.45) and the 200 (27.22), while placing third in the javelin throw (82-10).

The remainder of the OEC Track and Field Championships will take place on Friday, April 22 (prelims) and Friday, April 29 (finals) at Orange Coast College, beginning at 9 a.m.
