Several strong performances for the Pirates at CCCAA State Meet

SAN DIEGO -- Five different Orange Coast College women's track and field standouts made the trek down to San Diego for the California Community College Athletic Association State Track and Field Championships this past weekend, hosted by San Diego Mesa College.

The top result for the Pirates came in the 100-meter high hurdles, where Taylor Sims capped off her Coast career by earning the bronze medal with a third-place time of 14.34 seconds.

It was a battle for third place between Sims and Ventura College's Alisha Greenlaw, but the Pirate sophomore edged Greenlaw at the finish line as the VC hurdler settled for a fourth-place time of 14.38. College of the Sequoias' Deshaunda Morrison won the title with a time of 13.76, followed by Fresno City's Moesha Davidson (13.81).

A pair of Pirates -- Alyssa Allen and Bethani Heising -- competed for the state title in the 1,500 and both OCC runners performed well, with Allen taking fourth place with a time of (4:42.21) and Heising placing sixth with a time of 4:46.65.

In the long jump, freshman Lauren Delgadillo finished eighth in the state with a mark of 17-feet, 2 1/2 inches.

Sophomore distance specialist Janessa Reyes capped off a solid OCC career by finishing eighth in the state in the 5,000 with a time of 18:40.31.
