Several strong performances for the Pirates at Cerritos Invitational

NORWALK -- It was another record-setting performance by sophomore standout Taylor Sims as the Orange Coast College women's track team competed in the 2016 Cerritos Invitational and came home with some impressive times.

Sims, who already had the top two times in OCC history, topped both of those marks with a winning time of 14.35, topping her pervious-best time of 14.63, set last year. For the record, Sims also holds the third-best time of 14.72, which she clocked earlier this year.

In the 5,000, freshman Alyssa Allen nearly broke the 19-minute mark and settled for a fourth-place time of 19:06.46.

Long jumper Lauren Delgadillo took advantage of a strong opening jump and placed second overall with a jump of 17-feet, 3 3/4 inches.

The Pirates will take the weekend off and prepare for the Orange Empire Conference championships. The OEC prelims will take place at OCC on Friday, April 22 at 10 a.m., with the finals set for Friday, April 29 at OCC, also at 10 a.m.
