Pirates win two on the road

PASADENA -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team capped off a successful two-match road trip with a five-set win over Pasadena City College on Friday afternoon.

On Thursday, Coast made quick work over host Glendale College with a 25-19, 25-22, 25-23 nonconference win. On Friday, it wasn't quite as easy as the Pirates needed five full sets to defeat the host Lancers, 25-22, 25-13, 18-25, 23-25, 15-11.

Freshman outside hitter Sierra Brown had a successful two matches, posting a combined 50 kills (19 vs. Glendale, 31 vs. Pasadena) and 35 digs (13 vs. Glendale, 22 vs. Pasadena).

Libero Carina Perez notched 24 digs in the win over Glendale and came back the next day for 24 more digs against the Lancers. Kiana Nicio also chipped in 24 digs in the win over PCC, while Kayla Mayer added 23 to go along with eight kills.

Setter Megan Ritchie also had herself a busy couple of days, dishing out 37 assists against Glendale and 50 more against PCC.

The Pirates (5-0) will return to action on Friday, Oct. 4 at home against Saddleback to kick off the Orange Empire Conference portion of their schedule, beginning at 6 p.m.
