Pirates doubled-up by Hornets, 12-6

COSTA MESA -- A costly third period of play was more than the Orange Coast College women's water polo team could handle as the Pirates fell 12-6 to visiting Fullerton College on Wednesday in Orange Empire Conference action.

OCC trailed 5-2 in the first half but managed to slowly creep back into the match. With 5:48 left in the third, a goal by Katelyn Hansen (off of an Audrey Hung assist) tied the score at 5.

But that would be it for the Pirate offense for the next 10 minutes of play as the Hornets regained the lead and pulled away with a 7-0 run, sparked by a pair of goals by the trio of Alicia Tully, Leilani Vazquez and Tiffany Frechette.

Hansen had three goals for OCC, while Kellie Thorsness added two goals and Laruen Babb tallied one. Lindsey Richardson had eight saves in goal for Coast.

The Pirates will return to OEC action on Wednesday at Saddleback, beginning at 3 p.m.
