Pirates advance in regionals with 15-8 win over Ventura

NORWALK -- The Orange Coast College women's water polo team advanced to the second round of the 2013 Southern California Regional Championships with a 15-8 win over Ventura on Thursday at Cerritos College.

The Pirates led 3-2 after one quarter before adding to their lead with a 4-1 goal advantage in the second quarter to lead 7-3 at the half. The offense continued its fine work, outscoring Ventura 3-2 in the third and 5-3 in the fourth to pull away.

Kellie Thorsness led the Pirates (12-11) with eight goals. Audrey Hung added four goals, Katelyn Hansen chipped in two goals and Lauren Babb contributed one goal.

Goalie Lindsey Richardson notched nine saves in the win for the seventh-seeded Pirates, who now face second-seed Riverside City College on Friday.
