COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's water polo team used a steady offense throughout the entire match to defeat visiting Saddleback, 16-7, in the Pirates' season and conference opener on Wednesday.
The Pirates scored four goals each all four quarters to keep a comfortable distance between themselves and the Gauchos (3-3, 0-1).
Leading 4-3, Coast used a 7-0 run to pull away from the Gauchos and cruised from there.
Shawna Kedzie led the Pirates with four goals. Lexi Heyerly and Taylor Madsen each had three goals, while Sian Davis added two. Single tallies were turned in by Lyric Soto (six assists), Leslie Franco, Phoebe Barker and Laurin Semmelroth.
In goal, Rachelle Addam made seven saves to help keep the Gauchos at bay.
The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday at home against Santa Ana, beginning at 3 p.m.
