Pirates fall to Hornets in conference finale

FULLERTON -- The Orange Coast College women's water polo team dropped its final Orange Empire Conference match of the regular season to host Fullerton College, 20-5, on Wednesday afternoon.
With both teams tied for third place in the OEC standings heading into the matchup, the loss drops the Pirates (10-8 overall, 3-3 in conference) to fourth place, while the while the Hornets improve to 18-8 overall, 4-2 in conference).
Shawna Kedzie had a pair of goals for the Pirates, while single goals were tossed in by Lyric Soto, Taylor Madsen and Leslie Franco. In goal, Rachelle Addam notched three saves.
Up next for the Pirates is the 2016 Orange Empire Conference Championships, hosted by Saddleback College. Coast will take on the host Gauchos in the opening round on Thursday, beginning at 11:40 a.m. The winner of that match will take on top-seeded Riverside City College on Thursday at 3:40 p.m.
