Pirates roll past Santa Ana, 21-9

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's water polo wore down an understaffed Santa Ana College squad in the second half en route to a 21-9 Orange Empire Conference win over the visiting Dons on Wednesday afternoon.

Coast (2-0) took advantage of a deep and well balanced roster and had 10 different goal scorers, including Lexy Heyerly, Shawna Kedzie and Phoebie Barker, who each scored three goals. Sian Davis, Sini White, Lyric Soto, Taylor Madson and Laurin Semmelroth each had two goals, while Hannah Jones and Elizabeth Vondriska each tossed in one goal.

Heyerly had a solid all-around game with five assists and five steals to go along with her three goals, while Soto added four assists and five steals.

Rachelle Addam took advantage of the offensive barrage and picked up the win in goal, notching six saves along the way.

Kaylah Margo had three goals for the seven-player Dons (0-2), while Kristi Mertins and Alejandra Barajas each added two goals. Goalie Victoria Lopez notched nine saves.

The Dons hung tough for the first half and trailed only by four goals at the break (10-6), before Coast outscored SAC 6-0 in the third quarter, highlighting an 8-0 run overall. 

The Pirates will compete in the Mt. San Antonio College Tournament beginning on Friday and going through Saturday.
