Pirates sweep past Roadrunners, 10-1
COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College baseball team made it a clean sweep on Saturday with a 10-1 win over visiting College of the Desert at Wendell Pickens Field, taking all three games in the series with the Roadrunners.
David Wilson picked up the win for OCC (9-2), pitching five solid innings of relief and allowing no runs on just two hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
Offensively, the Pirate bats were alive and well once again after a sluggish performance on Friday. Coast pounded out 12 hits and found success up and down the lineup.
Leading the barrage was sophomore Ricky Navarro, who went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Other big bats in the Coast offense included Cody Bruder (2-for-4, double, two runs, three RBI), Austin Saenz (2-for-2, reached base four times, three runs, two RBI) and Manny Argomaniz (2-for-3, three runs, one RBI).
The Pirates, who actually trailed in all three games in this series with the Roadrunners (2-8), used four COD errors and timely hitting and scored three runs in the bottom of the second and four more runs in the bottom of the third to take control of the game.
OCC's relief corps of Wilson, Sean Leary, Garrett Hartwell and Brian Bass combined to allow just three hits with six strikeouts over the final six innings of work.
Up next for the Pirates will be the Southwestern College Jaguars on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Wendell Pickens Field.
