Coast drops third straight in conference with loss to Lasers

IRVINE -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team came up just short on the road Friday night, losing to Irvine Valley College, 66-62, in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.

In a rugged, hard-fought game that saw 47 combined fouls and 39 combined turnovers, Coast held a one-point lead (60-59) with just under two minutes left after Jo Jo Trinidad nailed a 3-pointer.

But back-to-back buckets by Dathon Spencer and Zach Mills put the Lasers (10-7, 2-1 in OEC) up for good, as the Pirates missed a couple of shot attempts down the stretch.

Trinidad and Jordan Pellum each had 12 points to lead the Pirates (9-9, 0-3), while Spencer Poston added a solid all-around performance with 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

OCC will return to action on Wednesday at home against Santa Ana College, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
