Pirates push past Cypress

COSTA MESA -- Jordan Pellum had 25 points and six rebounds to lead the Orange Coast College men's basketball team to an 89-74 win over visiting Cypress College on Wednesday night inside OCC's Peterson Gym.

Pellum had the hot hand the entire evening, hitting 8-of-10 from the field, 3-of-4 from 3-point ranger and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. He also dished out three assists and picked up a pair of steals along the way.

Three other players provided solid offensive contributions for the Pirates (12-14, 3-8 in Orange Empire Conference), including Spencer Poston (14 points, six rebounds), Marquis Ransom (11 points, five rebounds) and Broderick Dunlap (10 points).

For the Chargers (5-23, 0-12), Jacob Nungaray led the way with 14 points, while three other Cypress players -- Davon Potts, Chris Kapono and Jake Arck -- each added 13 points. Arck and Montel Taylor (11 points) each came through with 10 rebounds each as well.

After a free-throwless first half, the Pirates became more aggressive in the second half and got to the line 22 times, making 18. Coast's tough defense also forced 22 Cypress turnovers.

The Pirates will wrap up the regular season at home on Friday against Fullerton College, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
