Pirates struggle in second OEC event

EL CAJON -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team struggled in its second Orange Empire Conference matchup on Monday, going 2-5 against the field at the Sycuan Golf Resort.

The Pirates finished on Monday 2-5 against the competition after shooting a team score of 389. Cypress won the event with a 374, with Santiago Canyon (380), Riverside, (384), Irvine Valley (387) and Palomar (389) finishing ahead of the Pirates (9-5 through two events). Cuyamaca and Saddleback each shot a 393 to complete the team scores.

Kyle Melchiorre shot a 74 to lead the Pirates, while Michael Chen carded a 76 and Kyle Pollema came in with a 78. Riley Murphy (80), David Pelekoudas (81) and Marcus Mercado-Kiel (83) round out the scoring for Coast.

The Pirates will have their turn to host the next OEC event on Wednesday, March 20 at Santa Ana Country Club, beginning at 9 a.m.
