Pirates regain first place after solid performance

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA -- The Orange Coast College men's golf returned to first place atop the Orange Empire Conference standings following a solid performance on Monday at Tijeras Creek.

Coast earned six wins after a second-place score of 387, just two shots behind Cypress (385) for the low score of the day. Santiago Canyon, the first-place team heading into Monday's event, finished 0-7 after shooting a team score of 410.

The end result puts the Pirates in first place with a 36-13 record, while SCC (32-17) drops to second place. Cypress (28-21), Riverside (26-23) and Palomar (25-24) round out the top-five.

OCC's Kyle Melchiorre shot the low round of the day, carding an even-par 72 to lead the Pirates. Kyle Pollema shot a 76, while Riley Murphy (77), Marcus Mercado-Kiel (80), David Pelekoudas (82) and Michael Chen (84) complete Coast's scores for the afternoon.

The Pirates will return to action at Green River on Wednesday before completing the regular season at the two-round OEC Championships, held at Los Serranos, on April 29.
