Pirates drop to second place in OEC after latest event

CHINO -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team finished 3-4 for this week's Orange Empire Conference matchup, held at El Prado Golf Club, on Monday after shooting a team score of 379.

The fifth-place result, slipped the Pirates (30-12) down to second place in the overall OEC standings after Santiago Canyon shot a 377 for second place and a 6-1 record, putting the Hawks 32-10 overall.

Cuyamaca won the event on Monday with a 374, becoming the fifth different school in six OEC matchups to finish first. Riverside (378) finished third, while Cypress equaled the Pirates' 379, but earned fourth on a card-off.

Kyle Melchiorre and Riley Murphy each finished the par-72 course at 3-over-par 75, while Kyle Pollema and Marcus Mercado-Kiel each carded a 4-over 76. Michael Chen came in with a 77 and David Pelekoudas carded a 79.

OCC's next event with its conference foes will take place on Monday at Tijeras Creek, beginning at 12:20 p.m.
