CHULA VISTA -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team made the most of a long, hot drive to Chula Vista and came home with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Southwestern College on Friday afternoon.
It was a scoreless draw for the first half before the Pirates (5-1-1) came out strong in the second half. Danny Vargas fed a nice pass onto the foot of teammate John Cisneros and the freshman forward found the back of the SWC net in the 57th minute, putting OCC up, 1-0.
In the 70th minute, the Pirates picked up a much-needed insurance goal when Blair Durand found teammate Tino Varona, who beat the Jaguars' goalkeeper for a 2-0 Coast advantage.
Those two goals held up as freshman goalkeeper Pablo Ramirez continued his fine play with a six-save shutout, his second goal-free effort this week.
The Pirates will return to the friendly confines of the OCC Soccer Complex on Tuesday against San Diego City College, beginning at 3 p.m.
