MONTEREY PARK -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team overcame the late-summer heat and pulled out a dramatic 1-0 road win at East Los Angeles College on Wednesday afternoon.
With neither team on the scoresheet through 89 minutes of play, the Pirates (2-1) found the back of the net when Luca Petruolo found Powell and the sophomore midfielder didn't miss, scoring in the match's final minute of play to give Coast the hard-fought win over the Huskies (1-3-1).
In goal, Cesar Pedroza-Acosta was dynamite, stopping all six shots that came his way to give OCC its second shutout victory. The Pirates have allowed just one goal through three contests, which is a solid recipe for success as the 2024 season unfolds.
Coast will wrap up its four-match road trip to start the season on Friday at San Diego City College, beginning at 4 p.m. OCC's home opener will take place on Friday, Sept. 13 against Pasadena City College, beginning at 4 p.m.
