COSTA MESA -- It was a tale of two halves for the Orange Coast College men's soccer team as the Pirates settled for a 3-3 draw with visiting Golden West College on Tuesday at the OCC Soccer Complex.
The Pirates (2-4-2 overall, 0-0-1 in the Orange Empire Conference) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening six minutes of play with goals by Zenden Berbari and Gabriel Garcia and made it 3-0 before halftime on a goal off the foot of Brady Powell.
Berbari's goal came off a nice pass from teammate Bradley Kirkman. Powell's goal came directly from a free kick, while Saif Shaker earned the assist on Garcia's second tally of the first half.
But the Rustlers (0-4-2, 0-0-1) came out quickly in the second half and scored a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes of the final 90 minutes with goals by Brice Martinez and Jorge Orozco. Orozco found the back of the net in the 67th minute and suddenly, OCC's three-goal, first-half lead evaporated.
Coast had to work hard over the final 10 minutes of play when a Pirate player was sent off with two yellow cards, putting OCC down a player. But, neither team could score the tiebraker and the contest ended in a stalemate.
OCC goalkeeper Cesar Pedroza-Acosta had six saves, while GWC's Trevor Jones had four.
Coast will return to action on Friday at Fullerton College, beginning at 6 p.m. OCC's next home match will take place on Tuesday against Santa Ana, beginning at 3 p.m.
