Pirates double-up Hornets in OEC opener
FULLERTON -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team picked up a hard-fought 6-3 win over Fullerton College in the Pirates' Orange Empire Conference opener on Thursday at FC.
Coast took a 4-2 lead after singles, thanks to straight-set wins by Andrew Pham (6-3, 6-1), Chad Meyer (6-1, 6-2), Dillon Nguyen (6-4, 6-1) and Michael Chantos (6-0, 6-3).
In doubles, the Hornets made it 6-3 after a win at No. 1 doubles, but the depth of the Pirates was too much to overcome as Pham/Nguyen (8-2) and Anthony Thai and Timmy Pham (8-6) posted convincing wins.
With the win, OCC improves to 4-2 overall, 1-0 in the OEC. Coast will return home and host Cypress on Tuesday, beginning at 2 p.m.
