Pirates take the sting out of the Hornets, 7-2
FULLERTON -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team used strong doubles play to earn a 7-2 Orange Empire Conference win over host Fullerton College on Thursday afternoon.
OCC (7-5 overall, 1-4 in conference), grabbed a 4-2 lead in singles play, with straight-set victories coming from Joey Dijkstra (6-1, 6-0), Yuma Olsen (6-0, 6-0), Matt Lindsey (6-3, 6-2) and Doug Nguyen (6-0, 6-2).
Needing one win in doubles to secure the team victory, Coast took no chances and swept through the Hornets, led by the teams of Ho Kiu Tam/Chris Hasrouni (8-6), Dijkstra/Lindsey (8-4) and Olsen/Nikita Garkaparthi (8-1).
Tuesday's matchup with Cypress College was postponed due to rain. The Pirates will host Irvine Valley on Thursday, beginning at 2 p.m.
