Pirate men's tennis top Hornets, fall to Gauchos to wrap up season

MISSION VIEJO -- Last week, the Orange Coast College men's tennis team topped Fullerton College, 6-3, on Tuesday before wrapping up the regular season with a 6-3 loss to host Saddleback on Friday.

In the win on Tuesday over the visiting Hornets, Coast split its six singles matches, with wins coming from Joey Dijkstra (6-1, 6-1), Charlie Vanderwey (6-1, 6-1) and Yuma Olsen (6-0, 6-1). The key to victory came in doubles, where OCC won all three matches, led by the teams of Chris Hasrouni/Doug Nguyen (8-4), Dijkstra/Matt Lindsey (8-2) and Olson/Nikith Girikaparthi (8-5).

Against the Gauchos, the teams of Hasrouni/Nguyen and Lindsey/Dijkstra each picked up 8-5 wins in doubles, while Dijkstra earned a 6-4, 6-2 win in singles for OCC's three wins.

The Pirates wrapped up the 2018 season with a record of 8-10 overall, 2-8 in the Orange Empire Conference.
