Dijkstra/Lindsey reach state quarters for Pirates

OJAI -- It was a solid run through the state men's doubles tennis tournament for the Orange Coast College pair of Joey Dijkstra and Matthew Lindsey, who picked up three wins in the tournament before falling in the state Elite Eight at the Ojai Tennis Center.

Dijkstra and Lindsey -- seeded No. 13 in the field -- opened things with a 6-1, 6-4 win against Reedley College's Ethan Gunn and Robert Smith in the Round of 64. From there, the OCC duo toppled No. 3 seed Evan Gazekian and JT Gaviano of De Anza College, 6-4, 4-6, 12-10 to reach the Sweet 16.

There, Dijkstra and Lindsey stayed alive in the tournament with a 6-2, 2-6, 12-10 win over Ventura College's Alex Martin and Jakob Rinschen, moving the Pirate pair to the state quarterfinals. But, the run would come to an end with a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Cerritos College's Alexy Prokopchuk and Marcos Silvestre, the tournament's No. 2 seed.

In singles play, Dijkstra, seeded 13th in the field, defeated Santa Rosa's Trevor Pinder, 6-1, 6-2 in the Round of 64 before falling to third-seed Michael Vizcarra of American River (6-3, 6-2) in the Round of 32.
