Pirates doubled-up by Riverside, 6-3

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team showed improvement against first-place Riverside City College the second time around, but in the end, the Pirates still came up short with a 6-3 home loss to the Tigers on Tuesday.

Coast, which fell to undefeated RCC 9-0 in the first round of Orange Empire Conference play, picked up an inspired win at No. 1 singles by freshman Joey Dijkstra, who bead RCC's Thomas Pidoux, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. At No. 6 singles, Yuma Olsen put forth a strong effort, but lost in a tiebreaker, 6-4, 6-7 (10-1).

In doubles, Dijkstra continued his strong play and teamed up with Matt Lindsey for an 8-1 win over the team of Miles Clark and Elie-Noe Nicolay.

The Pirates will return to action on Monday at home against El Camino College, beginning at 2 p.m.
