Webb, Hutchins lead Pirates past Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA -- Jim Webb and Ty Hutchins each had 14 kills to lead the Orange Coast College men's volleyball team to a three-set sweep over the host Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros on Friday night.

Brendan Duff added 32 assists and notched a team-best five digs for the Pirates as the swept the Vaqueros, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16 in a nonconference matchup.

Coast (4-0) notched an impressive .403 hitting percentage for the night agains the Vaqueros (2-1) and used strong serves (six aces) keep the hosts on their heels the entire night.

Nick May had nine kills and Davis Grininger and Shane Dyer had five apiece for SBCC. Carl Mendoza had eight digs for Santa Barbara, which hit just .130 for the match.

Earlier in the week, the Pirates also made quick work of L.A. Trade Tech College, sweeping past the Beavers, 25-10, 25-14, 25-15. In that win, Nick Amado led the way with 13 kills and an impressive .667 hitting percentage. Anthony Hanna dished out 25 assists, while Jeff Taylor came up with a team-best five digs.

Coast will return to action on Wednesday at home against Moorpark, beginning at 6 p.m.
