Arnett's big game lifts Pirates past Dons

SANTA ANA -- Jenna Arnett had 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Orange Coast College women's basketball team to a convincing 77-57 win over Santa Ana College on Friday night at SAC.

The Pirates (12-14, 3-7 in Orange Empire Conference) outrebounded the Dons (9-17, 1-9) 55-33 in the game, enabling the guests to pick up easy points down low on first and second opportunities.

Coast notched 29 second-chance points and scored 24 points in the paint, with Arnett leading the way.

The sophomore forward finished the game 11-of-18 from the floor and 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.

While Arnett was working hard down low, the guard combination of Caitlin Bunting and Dayanara Armenta were taking care of business from the outside. Bunting came off of the bench and scored 14 points, including three 3-pointers, while Armenta also knocked down a trio of treys and scored 13.

Michelle Angel provided another consistent performance, with seven points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Carly Ducat led the Dons with 21 points and nine rebounds.

OCC will have the week off from competition but will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at home against Cypress, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
