Armenta earns first-team, All-OEC honors; Angel, Arnett selected for second team
COSTA MESA -- Freshman Dayanara Armenta and sophomores Michelle Angel and Jenna Arnett were recognized for their outstanding play in 2012-13 by being selected to this year's All-Orange Empire Conference teams, as selected by the conference's head coaches this past weekend.
Armenta, a 5-foot-6 shooting guard from Foothill HS was a first-team, All-OEC selection. Angel, a 5-9 guard/forward from Laguna Hills HS and Arnett (5-11 forward from Laguna Hills HS) earned spots on the OEC's second team.
Armenta led the Pirates in scoring, averaging 16.9 points per game. A consistent scorer, she reached double figures in scoring in 25 of her 28 games played and started for OCC this year.
Her high-point game came on Nov. 29 against Allan Hancock when she hit 6-of-11 from 3-point range and finished the game with 28 points, one of eight games in which she scored 20-or-more points.
Angel was the floor leader for the Pirates in 2012-13 and was a constant contributor on both sides of the floor. She was second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.5 points per game, scoring 10-or-more points in 15 of her 27 games played.
Arnett was a strong force down low for the Pirates in 2012-13, averaging 8.6 points and a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game. Her best performance of the season came on Feb. 8 against Santa Ana when she scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in OCC's 77-57 win over the Dons.
Despite playing some of her time at the forward position, Angel also averaged 4.5 assists per game to go along with 5.1 rebounds per game.
OCC finished the 2012-13 season 13-15 overall, 4-8 in conference play.
