Pirates dominate Dons under the lights

COSTA MESA -- Playing on the same field as the Orange Coast College football team, it seemed only appropriate for the OCC women's soccer program to put up a touchdown on visiting Santa Ana, blanking the visiting Dons, 7-0, on Friday night under the lights at Dick Tucker Field.
Jordan Moore notched three goals to lead the Pirates (12-5-3, 9-4-2 in Orange Empire Conference), while Lupe Gonzalez added a pair of goals and Aileen Ortiz and Kylie Robertson earned one goal each.
Coast took control of things from the opening whistle and scored the first goal in the 16th minute when Samantha Lombardo sent in a corner kick towards the goal, where Rodriguez banged it into the back of the net.
Just three minutes later, a cross pass off the foot of Rodriguez found Ortiz and the freshman forward did not miss her scoring opportunity, putting OCC ahead, 2-0.
It stayed that way for the remainder of the first half, but in the second half, the Pirates pulled away with a near-flawless performance on both sides of the field. Coast outshot the Dons (8-9-3, 4-8-3), 13-1 in the second half and played the majority of the final 45 minutes on Santa Ana's side of the field.
Moore scored her first goal of the night off a corner kick by Lombardo in the 52nd minute, then, ripped a free kick into the back of the net in the 72nd minute for her second goal of the night.
After Robertson made it 5-0 in the 76th minute, Moore notched the hat trick off a helper from Illiana Casteneda in the 83rd minute.
Rodriguez capped off the seven-goal night when she took a pass from Robertson and bent in a shot into the corner of the goal.
Tara Tellez had three saves for Coast, while SAC's netminder Reyna Campos stopped 10 shots.
The Pirates will return to action on Thursday against Golden West, also at Dick Tucker Field, beginning at 7 p.m.
