Pirates blank Spartans, 3-0

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team wrapped up the nonconference portion of its schedule with a solid 3-0 win over visiting MiraCosta College on Friday at the OCC Soccer Complex.

Using a favorable wind in the first half, the Pirates (3-1-1) ripped off three straight goals in a nine-minute stretch and cruised to victory from there.

In the 20th minute, a loose ball amongst a pile of players found its way to sophomore midfielder Jordan Moore, who turned and delivered a strong shot on goal that found the back of the net, putting the Pirates up 1-0.

Six minutes later a nice run with the ball down the sideline from Ciara Brennan led to a feed to teammate Sydnee Busby, who beat the Spartans' goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

Then, in the 29th minute, a costly mistake my the MiraCosta defense led to a turnover, which Moore capitalized on with a 25-yard shot that buried itself into the back of the net.

The Spartans (0-4-0), who were held without a shot for the first half, used the helping wind side of the field and managed a couple of moderate scoring opportunities, but OCC goalkeeper Tara Tellez notched two second-half saves to earn her second shutout of the season.

The Pirates will now head into Orange Empire Conference play unbeaten in their last three (2-0-1) and will travel to Norco College on Tuesday to take on the Mustangs, beginning at 3 p.m. OCC's next home contest will be on Friday against Saddleback, also at 3 p.m.
