Strong start lifts Pirates past Dons, 5-1

SANTA ANA -- Never an easy place to play, the Orange Coast Coast women's soccer team used a strong start and carried that momentum into a 5-1 Orange Empire Conference road win against host Santa Ana College on Tuesday.

The Pirates (3-4-2, 2-3-0 in OEC) found some much-needed offensive punch thanks to a three-goal performance from Michelle Caballero and a pair of goals from Delani Guyot. Coast grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first 13 minutes of the match and never looked back the rest of the afternoon.

Two goals by Caballero and one by Guyot put OCC up 3-0 at the end of the first half. Santa Ana (3-5-1, 1-4-0) trimmed the deficit to 3-1 in the 69th minute on a goal by OEC goal leader Leyna Wood, but the Dons would not get any closer.

Finally, the Pirates capped off the afternoon with a pair of goals by Guyot and Caballero in the final 10 minutes of the match to seal the win.

Coast will return to action on Friday at home against Cypress, beginning at 3 p.m.
